Self Esteem

“Believe in yourself.”

This is the message that we all encounter constantly, in books, television shows, superhero comics, and common myths and legends.

We are told that we can accomplish anything if we believe in ourselves. Of course, we know that; we cannot accomplish anything in the world simply through belief—if that were true, a lot more children would be soaring in the skies above their garage roof instead of lugging around a cast for a few weeks! However, we know that believing in yourself and accepting yourself for who you are is an important factor in success, relationships, and happiness and that self-esteem plays an important role in living a flourishing life.

So the term self-esteem is used to describe a person’s overall sense of self-worth or personal value. In other words, how much you appreciate and like yourself. It involves a variety of beliefs about yourself, such as the appraisal of your own appearance, beliefs, emotions, and behaviours. We all know that self-esteem sometimes referred to as self-worth or self-respect and it can be an important part of success. Too little self-esteem can leave people feeling defeated or depressed. It can also lead people to make bad choices, fall into destructive relationships, or fail to live up to their full potential.

Self-esteem can play a significant role in your motivation and success throughout your life. Low self-esteem may hold you back from succeeding at school or work because you don't believe yourself to be capable of success. Having a healthy self-esteem can help you achieve because you navigate life with a positive, assertive attitude and believe you can accomplish your goals.

There are factors that affects self – esteem like thinking, age, any potential illness, disabilities, or physical limitations, moreover your job can also affect your self – esteem. There are two types of self- esteem, one is healthy self – esteem and another is unhealthy self – esteem. When you have healthy self – esteem ,you are more likely to have positive outlook on life, start feeling confident, start avoiding negative experience ,say “no” when you want to etc. But when we have unhealthy self – esteem we start focusing on our weakness, frequently start feeling like shame, anxiety, or depression, we have negative outlook on life etc.

Self-esteem will not fix all your problems but it will help you to find the courage to try new things, build new personality and be successful in life. And it is something we have to continually work towards, but it’s absolutely achievable. So one need to be stay committed and need to be aware of their internal thoughts as well as external surroundings. Keep focused on your goals and all that is possible when self – doubt is not holding you back.
